Gippsland Agricultural Group and Southern Farming Systems are inviting the local community to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a sunny and colourful way at the Community Pick Your Own Sunflower Day on Saturday, 14 February at the Gippsland Research Farm on Bengworden Road, Bairnsdale.
The event will allow families, couples and friends to wander through the blooming sunflower patch and pick their own stems to take home — a perfect way to enjoy a seasonal farm experience and share a special moment with loved ones. Participants are encouraged to bring their own secateurs to make the most of the picking experience.
Organisers say the sunflower day not only offers a fun, outdoor activity for the community but also celebrates local agriculture and the region’s productive farm land. The event is part of efforts by the Gippsland Agricultural Group, a volunteer-run organisation focused on agricultural research, demonstrations and community engagement at the Gippsland Research Farm, in partnership with Southern Farming Systems.
The sunflower fields are expected to be at their peak in mid-February, offering bright photo opportunities and a relaxed farm outing for all ages. Participants are encouraged to come early to experience the full beauty of the blooms.
