A record-breaking show of generosity from Gippsland woolgrowers has delivered another major boost for the region’s air ambulance service, with the latest Gippsland Helimed Charity Wool Bales sale raising more than $12,000.
The annual fundraiser, coordinated through the Omeo Show Society, marked its 11th successful year, with 107 donated merino fleeces combined into three bales and sold this week for $12,041.
The result brings the total raised for the Gippsland Helimed service through the charity wool initiative to an impressive $137,445.
Strong competition from returning buyers reflected the ongoing support of the wool industry for the cause.
The first two-bale lot was purchased by Endeavour Wool for 2400 cents per kilogram, while the final single bale was secured by long-time supporter Modiano at 2850 cents per kilogram.
Both companies are family-owned and have consistently backed the Gippsland charity sale, with Modiano in particular supporting local growers and the Helimed fundraiser since its inception.
Organisers said the sale once again highlighted the strength of community spirit across the region, with a long list of local farmers and businesses contributing fleeces, freight and services to make the fundraiser possible.
Special thanks were extended to the Omeo Show Society for hosting the initiative, along with Belinda and Noeleen Smith, Grinters Transport, AWTA Wool Testing and the wool buyers whose continued generosity ensures the fundraiser’s success.
The Gippsland Helimed service provides critical emergency response and patient transport across the region, and organisers said the continued backing from the agricultural community demonstrates the deep connection between rural industries and frontline emergency services.
