The historic Buchan Caves Hotel has long been a cornerstone of the Buchan community, and under current owners Paul and Kirstie, it is thriving as a family-friendly hub for locals and visitors alike.
Originally built in 1882 as the Buchan Inn, the hotel later became River View House before reopening in 1917 as the Caves Hotel, a name it retained for decades. In 2014, the iconic pub was tragically destroyed by fire, devastating locals and surrounding communities.
The community rallied around then-owners Greg and Marg Brick, raising funds through a crowdfunding campaign to rebuild. The modern new pub reopened on 8 December 2016 as the Buchan Caves Hotel, blending its historic charm with contemporary facilities.
Paul and Kirstie, both locals, have brought their passion for country hospitality and regional knowledge to the hotel, making it a welcoming space for families and visitors. The bistro offers classic pub meals, including schnitzels, steaks, fish and chips, daily specials, and kid-friendly options.
“Our goal is to make the Buchan Caves Hotel a community hub for events and entertainment,” the owners said.
“You arrive as strangers and leave as friends.”
The hotel is located at 49 Main Road, Buchan, open daily from 11am. Lunch is served from noon to 2pm, and dinner from 6pm to 8pm.
