Orbost are the 2025/26 Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) 20/20 champions, defeating West Bairnsdale in a low-scoring affair at the Bairnsdale City Oval last week, thanks to an inspired spell from Tim Osborn.
West Bairnsdale won the toss and were bowled out on the second last ball for just 95, with Bradley Daniels top-scoring with 19 from 23 balls.
Osborn sliced through the West top and middle order, picking up 5/20 from his four overs.
At 8/63, even 95 looked out of the equation for West Bairnsdale, but they got some handy lower order runs from Adam Hudson (10), Oscar Clarke (12) and Jet Kellow (eight not out).
Sadly, the innings lacked the normal big hitting of a 20/20 fixture, with only two boundaries hit for the innings, with the venue possibly not the ideal choice for an entertaining high-scoring 20/20 contest.
Osborn was supported by Alex Hulme who chimed in with 2/21.
In reply, the Blues chased the total down with 11 balls to spare for the loss of six wickets.
The victory set up by a 41-run fourth wicket unison between Jayden Price (22) and Alex Hulme (23).
Curtley Farley made 15 from nine balls at the top of the order, hitting the match’s only six.
The Blues did manage to strike six boundaries, but they certainly didn’t score as freely as they do at home on the run-friendly Orbost Recreation Reserve.
Their efforts were enough to take home the first offering of silverware for the 2025/26 season, much to the delight of players and spectators.
