Orbost Cricket Club was forced to forfeit its “B” grade fixture against Wy Yung last Saturday due to insufficient players, marking the first time this season the Blues have been unable to field a senior side. Forfeits are becoming increasingly common in lower-grade Bairnsdale Cricket Association matches, with Lindenow South Glenaladale having previously conceded a game to Orbost earlier in the season.
The Blues will be hoping to regroup and have enough players for this week’s away match against Paynesville at AJ Freeman Reserve.
Meanwhile, the Bruthen/Orbost under 16 side ended the season without a win, falling to Lindenow South Glenaladale at the Glenaladale Recreation Reserve. The side was dismissed for 80 in the final over with Alexander Jenkins top-scoring on 35 and William Burton the only other player to reach double figures with 10.
The fourth-placed Bulls chased the total in just 15 overs for the loss of four wickets, with Burton taking 2/46 and Xavier Hill impressing with 30 retired.
Encouragingly, Orbost’s under 16 and under 13 players have shown marked improvement throughout the season, highlighting a promising future for the club.
