Fourth spot is on the line heading into the final round of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association “B” grade season.
Bruthen (84 points) and Wy Yung (80) have dominated the competition, each suffering just one loss — to each other — while third-placed Lucknow (62) is secure in finals action. The battle for fourth looms between Paynesville (60) and West Bairnsdale (54).
Metung Swan Reach is also on 54 points but an inferior net run rate means it will miss out regardless of its result against Lakes Entrance at Swan Reach Recreation Reserve.
For Paynesville, the equation is simple: defeat Wy Yung at AJ Freeman Reserve and secure a finals berth. However, it is a significant challenge against the in-form Tigers.
Should the Gulls fall short, West Bairnsdale appears well placed to capitalise with a final-round clash against bottom side Orbost which has managed just two wins and forfeited its past two matches.
In “C” grade the top four is settled, with Sarsfield (76), Wy Yung (66), Meerlieu (64) and Lucknow (42) locked in for finals.
Semi finals in both grades will be played on Saturday, March 14, with grand finals scheduled for Saturday, March 21.
