After a successful Beef Week Open Day and Bull Sale Preview at the Glovers new Bull Sale venue, the Wattlewood Angus team have turned their attention to their Annual Bull Sale which is on Thursday, March 5 at 4pm.
Wattlewood is looking forward to hosting the sale in their new, unique setting that has come to fruition after months of evolving ideas, intensive labor and appreciated support and the setting was well received at the recent open day where visitors loved what had been created.
Along with loving the venue, positive comments from past buyers, new visitors and livestock agents admiring the bull’s sound structure, phenomenal shape and quiet temperament, something that John and Fiona have become renowned for over the decades of operating their stud at Lang Lang.
“Despite the hard start to spring that Gippsland experienced, the bulls have come along really well- they’re just so easy doing,” Fiona said.
“They have had all their vaccines and boosters that make them Immune Ready compliant along with having passed semen testing and being genotyped, produces can buy with confidence.”
Wattlewood is also proud to bring back their after-sale bull care program, where if requested, will travel to you and administer your new Wattlewood bull’s annual vaccination boosters, refer to the back of the Wattlewood catalogue for details.
When selecting the genetics that will be used in the herd, it is paramount that the sires have great feet and leg structure, low to
moderate birth weights, balanced EBV’s and any ill temperament animals are just not tolerated.
Of course, the end product is a major consideration in the process too, looking for animals that have high carcass qualities like IMF and feed efficiency.
Realising that whist breeding these remarkable bulls that will go out and perform, there are always going to be the ‘sisters’ that form the next generation of breeding females.
“We place a lot of enthesis on our breeding herd. That is theoretically where 50 per cent of the next generation come from. We love our cows and want longevity in our herd and breed for this accordingly,” Fiona stated.
Wattlewood is looking forward to christening the new sale complex and welcomes attendees to stick around after proceedings for nibbles and light refreshments.
