A large contingent of Orbost Bowling Club members took part in the annual Tambo Valley Bowling Club tournament over the long weekend, with mixed success.
The Snowy Rollers team, comprising Jan and Geoff Lynn and Maurice and Vanessa Frank, finished second on Saturday, with Jan winning the prize for the first toucher for a second. On Sunday, the Rellies—Trevor and Lorraine Hawkey combined with visiting relatives Phil and Diane Ashton—also claimed second place, while Geoff Lynn took out the prize for the first toucher for a lead.
Orbost’s third team, Roll the Dyce, featuring Beryl Dyce, Dennis McCann, Ralph Harding and Jurgen Fichtner, may not have won a prize, but they thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.
The teams’ highly inventive and colourful uniforms added to the fun atmosphere, while the ladies in the kitchen provided plenty of delicious scones and lunches throughout the tournament.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Last Thursday saw a reasonable turnout of bowlers despite overcast and very humid conditions. The match committee organised two 10-end games, with teams so evenly matched that no team won both games. The afternoon winners, by a single point, were Hayden Lancaster (skip), Rob Black and Maurice Frank.
There was no social bowls on Sunday due to the Tambo Valley tournament and another competition at Lakes Entrance Bowling Club.
The next social bowls session will be on Thursday, with players asked to be at the club by 12.30 pm.
CRACKERJACK
Crackerjack continues this week, starting at 5 pm on Wednesday evenings. Players can borrow bowls from the club for free and enjoy the sausage sizzle and licensed bar.
