The Buchan Precision Rifle Club held its NRL22 – National Rimfire League Course of Fire shoot last Saturday.
The event attracted nine competitors and several keen spectators for the March monthly shoot.
The match featured a dynamic mix of distances drawn from both Option One and Option Two of the March Course of Fire. Competitors were reminded to refer to the official match book on the day for confirmed stage distances. To keep things interesting, organisers also introduced a bonus challenge, revisiting a few classic stages from 2021.
These fan favourites included the ever-memorable “chair” prop and a range of unsupported shooting positions, producing plenty of laughter across the firing line, with surprisingly few colourful words heard.
Despite the unexpected appearance of some sunshine and a curious emu wandering by, the match ran smoothly, with one large squad working through all eight stages. In the main NRL22 scoring, reigning champion Matt Cunningham once again secured first place, closely followed by junior Mark Hederman in second and Ben Gebert in third.
Gebert credited his strong performance to a newly balanced rifle setup.
The bonus stages brought only minor changes to the leaderboard, with Gebert and Hederman swapping positions, while Cunningham remained dominant. The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held this Thursday evening at Gunsport Trading in Bairnsdale.
