Works are well underway on 115m of new footpath along Nicholson Street, improving safety, accessibility and the look of Orbost’s town centre.
The existing path has been badly cracked in places, so the upgrade will create a safer, more welcoming space for shoppers, retailers and visitors.
The existing trees along this section have been carefully assessed and are causing significant footpath damage and pedestrian safety hazards. Because underground services run directly beside the planting zone, new trees cana’t be replanted in the same spots under modern standards.
Instead, new garden beds will be installed to add greenery and complement the streetscape, and replacement street trees – including a maple – will be planted with root-barrier systems to help prevent future damage.
Works are being staged to minimise disruption. Business access will be maintained, with traffic management and some temporary parking changes in place.
