The Orbost Arts Centre is inviting the East Gippsland community and visitors to experience one of the region’s standout arts events — the Australian Wood Design Exhibition.
Opening night is Saturday, March 28
at 6pm, offering a chance to meet the
artists, explore finely crafted timber
works, and celebrate the creativity
and skill of woodworkers from across Australia.
This year’s exhibition features around 70 entries, showcasing everything from innovative furniture and ornamental wood turning to sustainable designs and works by school-age entrants.
Awards on the night include the Acquisition Award, Furniture Award, Wood Turning Award, Reuse, Reduce, Recycled Award, and the East Gippsland Timber and Talent Award, among others.
The panel of judges brings decades of expertise, including Jane Haussenger, designer-maker specialising in sustainable timbers; Robert Manhal, woodworker
and teacher with over 30 years’
experience; and Ian Johnson, known
for his ornamental wood turning across Gippsland.
Organisers acknowledge the support of local businesses and community groups, whose sponsorship makes the awards possible and helps inspire excellence in wood design.
The exhibition runs over Easter and continues until 28 May, providing plenty of opportunity for locals and visitors alike to explore the beauty, innovation, and craftsmanship on display.
Doors open at 6pm — all are welcome.
