East Gippsland families will soon have
a simpler way to enrol their children in kindergarten, with East Gippsland Shire Council introducing a new centralised
registration system.
The Kindergarten Central Registration Service will create a single point of entry
for state-funded three and four-year-old kindergarten programs across the shire, aiming to make the process clearer, fairer and more consistent.
Under the new model, council will coordinate registrations and allocate places on behalf of participating independent kindergarten providers, while services continue to deliver their programs.
Pre-registration is now open via council’s website, allowing parents and carers to register their interest at any time after their child is born. Hard-copy forms are also available at customer service centres and libraries, and may be submitted by services such as
Maternal and Child Health or Child
Protection to ensure children are captured
in the system.
Formal registrations open on April 1, with the first round closing on June 30. Families who have pre-registered will be contacted in the year before their child is due to start kindergarten and invited to complete a formal application.
Places will be allocated using priority criteria set by the Victorian Department of Education and agreed to by
participating providers.
Mayor Jodie Ashworth said the new system would help reduce stress for families navigating kindergarten enrolment.
