The much–anticipated East Gippsland Field Days are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 10-11, at the Bairnsdale Aerodrome, promising another major celebration of agriculture, innovation and rural community life in East Gippsland.
Organised annually by the Lindenow Lions Club, the Field Days have grown into one of the region’s most iconic events since first launching in 1986, attracting between 8000 and 10,000 visitors each year and supporting hundreds of local businesses, producers and community organisations.
The event began more than 35 years ago on private farmland west of Lindenow, with just 83 exhibitors in May 1986. Rapid growth soon saw the event relocate to another rural site at Walpa, before moving to a permanent home at Bairnsdale Aerodrome in the early 1990s.
Over time, the Field Days have expanded into a premier gathering for agricultural professionals, hobby farmers, regional families and industry partners. Today’s show features more than 300 exhibitor spaces, bringing together equipment suppliers, producers, agribusiness services and innovators from across Victoria and beyond.
In addition to showcasing farm machinery, livestock products and cutting–edge agricultural technology, the Field Days offer a broad program of demonstrations and entertainment that celebrates the region’s rural heritage.
Visitors can expect a lively mix of activities, including working displays such as woodchop events, sheep dog trials, live animal and reptile shows by Black Snake Productions, a dog education zone and live music across both days.
Children’s entertainment remains a strong focus, ensuring the Field Days are as much a family outing as an industry expo. Food vendors and local producers add to the atmosphere, giving guests the chance to sample regional fare and support small businesses.
The Field Days also remain a key community event, with funds raised through ticket sales and exhibitor support returned to local groups, clubs and projects – a practice that has helped sustain and strengthen East Gippsland communities over decades.
The event has broad support from local partners. In recent years, East Gippsland Shire Council has even brought its largest–ever display to the Field Days, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to connect directly with councillors, learn about local services and discuss regional priorities.
For those in agriculture or simply keen to experience country culture and innovation, the Field Days remain a must–visit event on the East Gippsland calendar — a place to connect, explore and celebrate the heart of rural Victoria.
