The Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ODCCI)
has outlined a strong forward agenda following its committee meeting held on Tuesday, March 10, with a clear focus on expanding membership, supporting local business, and contributing to the long-term vision of the region.
A key priority identified was broadening the chamber’s membership base, including targeted efforts to engage retirees and strengthen succession planning.
Committee members also highlighted the importance of taking a more strategic role in shaping the future of Orbost and District, potentially building on previous community development initiatives.
Work is continuing across several community and business initiatives.
A renewed “shop locally” campaign is set to roll out using updated materials, while planning is underway for potential mentoring and capacity-building workshops in the coming year.
The chamber is also actively involved in regional discussions through stakeholder meetings, where topics such as local infrastructure, maintenance and community services have been raised.
Progress has already been noted in areas including footpath upgrades and improvements to public spaces.
Community safety and amenity remain
on the agenda, with a defibrillator ordered for the town and its location yet to
be finalised.
Meanwhile, public art proposals, including a mural project, are being reassessed to ensure greater visual impact and value for the community.
Tourism and visitor engagement continue to be supported through the Visitor Information Centre, with upcoming Easter activities, infrastructure improvements, and ongoing service agreement negotiations in progress.
The chamber is also playing a role in broader regional projects, including coastal walk development and cycling routes, as well as contributing to initiatives under the “Orbost Together” banner.
These include plans for a community events calendar, expanded volunteer participation, and regular networking opportunities.
In positive news for the local economy, several new businesses have recently opened or are set to launch in the area, reflecting growing confidence and investment in the region.
The next chamber meeting is scheduled for April 14.
