A group of local volunteers from The Slab Hut recently took part in a familiarisation tour through the Marlo and Cape Conran region, ensuring they remain well informed and up to date when assisting visitors
to the area.
The tours are organised regularly and play an important role in helping volunteers provide accurate, first-hand information about local attractions, road conditions, and visitor experiences across East Gippsland.
On this occasion, the group travelled south to Marlo, stopping at several free camping areas along Marlo Road.
Along the way, volunteers even encountered a light-hearted local feature, a “Snowy River Croc” spotted keeping watch near one of the campsites.
The group visited the popular Marlo Jetty and continued on to explore the region’s natural highlights, including the striking Cabbage Tree Palms and the scenic Yeerung Lookout.
Continuing into the Cape Conran Coastal Park, volunteers took in the coastal scenery at East Cape and Salmon Rocks, both of which remain key drawcards for visitors
to the region.
The tour also included visits to local tourism businesses at Dunetown.
Volunteers were given a guided tour of Sailors Grave Brewing, followed by an inspection of the nearby Little Drift accommodation, which now features two newly established tiny homes offering a unique stay for visitors.
Organisers extended their thanks to Hannah from Little Drift and Gab from Sailors Grave Brewing for taking the time to host the
group and provide valuable insights into their operations.
The familiarisation tours continue to be a valuable initiative, strengthening local knowledge and ensuring visitors to the region receive informed and up-to-date advice during their stay.
