As we mark International Women’s Day (March 9), we celebrate more than achievements.
We celebrate resilience, quiet courage, the deep friendships, and the leadership that thrives in families, workplaces, and communities across Gippsland. This is a day to honour and recognise women not just for what they do — but for who they are.
In my work with women throughout our wider region, I see something powerful: when women are supported, connected, and prioritise their health, entire communities flourish. When a woman feels strong in her body, clear in her mind, and confident in her choices, she shows up differently — for her family, her work, her friendships, and herself.
Connection is at the heart of women’s health, especially in rural areas.
Here in Gippsland, distances can be vast, and life often demands that women juggle family, work, and community commitments with little time for themselves. Yet we are wired for community. Whether it’s a walk along the Mitchell River, a hike in the High County, a Pilates class in town, a shared meal with friends, or a conversation over coffee at a local café, these moments nurture mental wellbeing, lower stress, and remind us we are not alone. In a region that relies on strong, resilient women, connection is vital – it certainly is a necessity for me!
Health, too, deserves attention.
Far too often, women wait for a diagnosis or a crisis before prioritising themselves. True empowerment, however, comes from proactive care — nourishing our bodies, building strength to protect our metabolism and bones, moving daily, managing stress, and advocating for our health. Midlife can be a turning point. Hormonal shifts, changing family roles, and career demands may leave many feeling like strangers in their own bodies. Yet this season also offers opportunity: to rebuild strength, reset habits, and reclaim vitality. Strength and movement aren’t just about looks; they are about long-term health, energy, and confidence.
When women gather to support, learn, and move together, remarkable things happen. Confidence grows, energy returns, and conversations deepen. Boundaries strengthen, and the positive ripple effects reach families and communities across Gippsland.
This International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the courage of the women who show up for themselves — the women booking the appointment, lifting the weights, preparing nourishing meals, starting again after setbacks, building businesses, raising families, and quietly leading in their communities.
Health is not selfish — it is foundational. When women are well, Gippsland is stronger. When women are connected, they are unstoppable. And when women take ownership of their health, the future shines brighter for everyone.
Here’s to strength.
Here’s to friendship.
Here’s to vibrant health.
Here’s to women — in all their seasons.
