The Gippsland Irrigation Expo is returning for the first time since 2020, bringing the latest in irrigation technology, practical demonstrations and expert advice to the Sale Showgrounds on Wednesday, May 20.
Hosted by Agriculture Victoria, the free event aims to connect farmers, industry experts and technology providers, offering an opportunity to share knowledge and explore new ways to improve water efficiency and farm productivity.
Agriculture Victoria Irrigation Extension Officer Caelan McIntosh said the Expo was an important chance for the region to showcase innovation.
“It’s a great opportunity for our region to showcase innovation in irrigation and highlight how sustainable water management supports the future of Gippsland agriculture,” he said.
Respected Gippsland dairy farmer Graeme Anderson, a longtime advocate for irrigation development in the district, said events like the Expo were essential for keeping the community informed and connected.
“We should always try to work as an irrigation community,” he said. “Bringing everyone together means we can share the best knowledge that’s available. People are busy, and while a lot of things are online now, there’s real value in having one place to go and see it all in person. I’m always interested in what’s happening with irrigation and water in our district. It’s a great day for the younger generation too – there’s always something they can pick up.”
This year’s Expo will feature:
– A range of irrigation vendors exhibiting the latest technology and equipment
– Technical sessions designed to boost productivity, reduce operating costs and support profitable decision-making for farmers
– Live demonstrations from irrigation suppliers and service providers
– Networking spaces for irrigators to connect with each other, advisors and agencies
– An expected attendance of more than 500 people
The 2026 Gippsland Irrigation Expo is funded through the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action’s Sustainable Irrigation Program, delivered by Agriculture Victoria and the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.
