East Gippsland Shire Council is inviting the Orbost and district community to celebrate the everyday heroes who give their time to support others, with the 2026 East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll inductees to be recognised during National Volunteer Week (May 18–24).
The 2026 theme, Your Year to Volunteer, honours current volunteers while encouraging others to discover how volunteering can bring joy and purpose.
The week also aligns with the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, highlighting the role volunteers play in creating lasting positive change.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the Honour Roll reflects the diversity and generosity of volunteering across East Gippsland.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community,” Cr Ashworth said.
“Whether they’re coaching junior sport, supporting emergency services, planting trees, fundraising, caring for others or serving on local committees, their contribution matters.”
Cr Ashworth said volunteering plays a vital role in smaller communities such as Orbost, and the Honour Roll helps recognise those making a quiet but important contribution.
Nominations for the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll are open all year, with the 2026
inductees to be celebrated during National Volunteer Week.
