There was disappointment for Orbost Snowy Rovers in round one of East Gippsland netball, going down to the strong Lucknow Magpies in all seven games at Lochiel Park last Saturday.
Lucknow were minor premiers in “A” grade in 2025, and look set for a big year again this season, proving too strong all over the court for the Blues, running out 63-31 winners.
In “B” grade, the Blues had some solid moments and impressive passages of play, but unable to maintain the consistency of a slick Lucknow unit, who were particularly strong at the back end of quarters in their 39-26 win.
Tamara Heyne, Phoebe Seal and Meg Herbert were all solid performers for the Blues.
It was a similar scenario in “C” grade with Lucknow well drilled and having much better connection throughout, which resulted in them settling sooner and running out 41-22 winners.
Indianna Croad, Chloe Shanahan and Remi MacDonell were among the better players for the home side.
Lucknow were easy winners in “D” grade, 39-15, with under 15 player, Kayley Robinson, the best player for the Blues.
The closest match of the day was in the under 17s, with the Magpies and Blues trading goals early, with the sides looking evenly matched.
Lucknow asserted its authority in the second half on the way to a 31-26 victory.
Lara Seal, MacDonell and Lani Mundy all impressed.
The Magpies capitalised on Orbost’s turnovers in the under 15s, winning by 19 goals, 37-18.
Jemima Seal was named as the best player for the Orbost Snowy Rovers.
Despite some promising signs, Lucknow ran out easy winners in the under 13s, victorious 43-12, with London Austin and Ruby Faithfull leading the way for the Blues who battled hard against a quality opponent.
Orbost Snowy Rovers will venture to Lakes Entrance this week, where they are expecting seven tight contests against their arch rival.
