Current and former staff of Orbost Civil & Civic Pty Ltd (OCC) will be a major part of the celebrations around the former Shire of Orbost reunion coming up on May 2.
This year also marks 30 years since OCC commenced work under its first contract in January 1996.
Janice Quinsey who is shown in the attached photograph is now the chief executive/manager of the company, has been a major part of the success of this company.
Janice studied and qualified as a civil engineer at RMIT in 1987 and worked for the former Shire of Omeo between 1988 and 1989.
She then took on a position on the engineering staff at the Shire of Orbost which continued until the time of the municipal amalgamations.
Janice has held a director position at the company ever since it was founded.
She and her partner Mark Munro also own and operate the successful Clonmore Angus cattle stud.
They also have two adult daughters who have worked at times as employees of OCC.
OCC was set up as a private company with ownership by the Weatherall family.
This occurred at the time of the municipal amalgamations which saw the incorporation of the former Shire of Orbost into the newly created East Gippsland Shire.
The establishment of OCC as a contracting entity facilitated the ongoing employment of many former shire employees who had been made redundant through the amalgamation process.
Hence the skills, knowledge, and experience of those former employees were captured, to the benefit of Orbost and the East Gippsland area.
Over the ensuing years the company, as a successful contracting entity, has contributed many years of employment, millions of dollars in the form of wages and subcontractor payments, back into the economy of Orbost and East Gippsland .
Kate Murphy
Kate returned to Orbost, after years away studying town planning, along with her partner, Anthony Nelson who was a teacher at Nagle College.
On her move back, she took up the inaugural role as full-time town planner, with the former Shire of Orbost, in the mid 1980s.
As Mrs Kate Nelson, Kate moved onto the New East Gippsland Shire appointment as a senior town planner, where husband Anthony also joined her going at the offices, into the role in East Gippsland Shire, as contract overseer.
Between the pair of them they remained a connection to their Orbost community.
