Orbost Snowy Rovers went home with victory in the main football and netball matches last Saturday at the Lakeside Oval in round two of the East Gippsland Football Netball League, but the reserves and thirds football fixtures resulted in resounding wins for Lakes Entrance.
The Seagulls thirds unveiled their 2025 pennant and hit the ground running, keen to secure the
four points after sharing the spoils with Wy Yung in a dramatic draw in
round one.
In an outstanding all-round performance, the young Seagulls held the Blues goalless while kicking 10 of their own.
The second half was particularly impressive, with Lakes Entrance recording 15 scoring shots to two, kicking seven unanswered goals to run out 65-point winners.
Daniel Martin, Cooper Findley, Thomas Macalister, Beau Hanratty, Xavier Martin and Tye Robinson all tried hard for the Blues, who will be looking to turn their disappointing start to the season around in the coming weeks.
The Seagulls have also begun the reserves season in dominant fashion, following a 74-point win over Wy Yung in round one with a comprehensive 67-point victory over the Blues.
Orbost went in full of confidence after knocking over Lucknow in round one but they were no match for the rampant Seagulls.
Lakes Entrance controlled the inside 50s in the first half, registering 14 scoring shots to one to open up a 33-point lead at the main break.
Noah Bottom was the most influential forward on the ground, finishing with
five goals.
Orbost saw more of the ball in the second half, particularly in the third term,
where they managed their only goal of the match
(Luke Borley).
But it was the Seagulls who finished strongest, piling on five unanswered majors in the final quarter.
The Blues will enjoy a week off for the ANZAC Day weekend, before returning on May 2 to take on Paynesville at Lochiel Park.
