Everyone knows how the story of Romeo and Juliet ends.
But in just one week, Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company will bring a very different version of that story to the stage, as &Juliet opens at The Forge Theatre on Friday, May 1.
This week the production moves from its rehearsal space into The Forge for final tech rehearsals, before the in-show world is fully realised on opening night next Friday.
Theatre goers attending on opening night are in for a real treat, with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and supper provided by dedicated Production Line sponsor, New Leaf Cafe, direct from their fantastic location in the old Main Hotel.
With costumes combining Tudor-inspired fashion with bold 1980s pop styling, &Juliet tops off this modern retelling with a soundtrack of well-known hits from the ’90s and ’00s, including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, NSYNC and P!nk, setting the tone for a story that steps confidently beyond its original tragic ending.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated costume team consisting of Helen Ellett, Mary Doland, Barb Olsen, Anita Padula and Kristie Stewart have been working tirelessly to bring the show’s distinctive look to life.
Building on that distinctive Tudor-meets-80s aesthetic, the team has created a wardrobe that supports the visual impact and storytelling of the show.
Their attention to detail and steady work throughout rehearsals has ensured each performer steps on stage feeling confident, comfortable and fully part of the &Juliet universe.
&Juliet leans into colour, personality and a fresh take on familiar characters, with Production Line ready to bring that vision to life on stage for a three-week season that opens at The Forge Theatre on Friday, May 1, concluding with a Sunday matinee on May 17.
