Reigning premier Omeo Benambra has its sights firmly set on a three-peat in Omeo District netball after a commanding round three win over previously unbeaten
Buchan.
The Wilmas have been steadily building pressure on the Alpine Ranges early in the season, with Saturday’s highly anticipated clash seen as an early indicator of a possible shift in momentum at the top of the ladder. However, the contest did not play out that way, with Omeo Benambra taking control in the second half to underline its pr
emiership credentials in an emphatic 50–29 victory.
The result reinforced the benchmark status of the reigning premiers, with the Wilmas again showing they will take some stopping in 2026.
The other match of the round produced a thriller, with Swifts Creek and Bruthen locked in a see-sawing contest that went down to the final moments. The lead changed hands multiple times in the last quarter before Bruthen edged in front 37–36 at the final siren.
Hannah Healey and Sophie Kennedy were key contributors for Bruthen in a determined performance, while Lily McCole, Tahlia Stewart and Olivia Walker were among Swifts Creek’s best.
Lindenow South enjoyed the bye and will be aiming to climb off the bottom of the ladder this weekend when it hosts fourth-placed Demons, a side that could arguably be sitting higher given its performances to date.
Buchan will host Bruthen in the other fixture, with second place and early double-chance positioning on the line in what shapes as a crucial early-season clash.
