Orbost Bowls Club enjoyed another strong week of social competition, with excellent turnouts across both Thursday and Sunday formats despite several regular players being absent.
Thursday’s social bowls attracted one of the better fields seen in some time, with conditions generally favourable for play, although a little warm for some competitors. The format featured three games of eight ends, with only one team managing to go undefeated.
That honour went to the rink skipped by Ron Hatcher, alongside Beryl Dyce and Trevor Perry, all three familiar names among the winners’ list.
Sunday’s social event again drew an excellent attendance for the popular “Russian Roulette” format. The unique competition features four games of six ends, with a computer-generated system randomly rotating players through different teams and rinks, ensuring no one plays with the same combination twice.
Each player’s results are ranked individually via computer scoring, with Scott Farnell finishing on top to claim the $80 first prize. Lyn O’Brien placed second to take $70, while Hayden Lancaster was close behind in third, earning $50.
The next social bowls will be held on Thursday, May 7, with players asked to be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
Looking ahead, Sunday, May 10 will feature the club’s annual general meeting, which will begin at 10.30am. Members are encouraged to attend.
Following formal proceedings, presentations for the 2025/26 club champions will be held, followed by a barbecue.
In a nod to Mother’s Day, the annual Rolling Pin competition will also take place in the afternoon, with men’s and ladies’ teams competing for the trophy. The men will be aiming to reclaim the title after last year’s defeat and secure the coveted Rolling Pin for the next 12 months.
