Orbost Snowy Rovers sit third on the East Gippsland Football Netball League (EGFNL) ladder after a commanding win over Paynesville in round three at Lochiel Park last Saturday.
After a disappointing opening-round loss at home to Lucknow, the Blues have bounced back strongly with consecutive wins over Lakes Entrance and the Gulls.
The home side set the tone early, dominating the first quarter with 11 scoring shots to two and building a 29-point lead, which could have been greater with more accurate finishing.
To its credit, Paynesville lifted in the second term and matched Orbost Snowy in several key areas, but the Blues continued to control the scoreboard to go into half time 41 points ahead.
From there, the Blues took complete control of the contest. After a competitive second quarter from the Gulls, the home side lifted to another level in the second half, producing their best football of the season.
The Blues piled on 16 unanswered goals in a dominant finish, underlining their credentials as a genuine contender.
Tom Smith was the main beneficiary of the clean, precise ball movement, finishing with seven goals, while Kieran Vickery and Jarrah Nettleton both kicked three each.
Other strong contributors for Orbost Snowy included Gus Rogers, Angus Joiner, Bobby Bills and Curtley Nettleton, who was prominent across half back.
Paynesville were well served by Jai Nelson, Jordan Dadswell, Ben McKinnon, Koby Sellings and James O’Dwyer.
Orbost Snowy Rovers now turn their attention to Boisdale Briagolong this Saturday at the Cabbage Patch.
