Orbost Snowy Rovers junior footballers travelled to Paynesville last Sunday to take on the Gulls at AJ Freeman Reserve.
The under 15 match was a forfeit, with Paynesville unable to field a side, leaving the under 13 clash as the main contest. Both teams were chasing their first win of the season.
After an even opening quarter, the Gulls produced their best football of the match in the second term, building a 17-point lead through strong tackling pressure and creative handball use.
The third quarter was again tightly contested, with both sides creating opportunities, but the respective defences held firm at crucial moments.
Trailing by 15 points at the final change, Orbost launched a strong final-term challenge, producing excellent team football and kicking two unanswered goals.
However, the final siren sounded with the gallant Gulls holding on for a three-point win.
Angus Seal, Charlotte Burt, Theodore Kuyper and Kenzie Downey were among the better performers for the Blues across four quarters.
Orbost Snowy Rovers now turn their attention to arch-rival Lakes Entrance this Sunday at Lochiel Park, with play starting at 10.30am with the under 11s.
