Orbost Snowy Rovers hosted traditional rival Lakes Entrance on Mother’s Day in round five of the East Gippsland Junior Football Association (EGJFA) at Lochiel Park last Sunday.
Unfortunately, the Seagulls brought a rich vein of form with them up the highway, having only lost to Wy Yung in round one across both the under 13 and under 15 competitions.
Lakes Entrance put the under 13 match beyond reach early, kicking four unanswered goals in the opening quarter on the way to a comfortable five-goal victory. The Blues finally registered their first major in the final term, with Beau Russell and Kenzie Downey both working hard all day against quality opposition. Orbost currently sits in sixth place on the ladder, still searching for its first win.
The Lakes Entrance under 15s were equally impressive, keeping the home side goalless in the first half before eventually running out emphatic 50-point winners.
It was not all one-way traffic for the Blues, who kicked four goals in a much-improved second half, but were still comfortably outscored by the Seagulls. Lachlan Robinson, Jimmy Hardy, Chad Russell, Kayden Smith and Hunter Greaves were among Orbost’s better players.
The Blues sit a game outside the top four in fifth place, with a crucial clash against fourth-placed Lindenow this weekend. A loss could end their finals hopes early.
Orbost will travel to Lindenow on Sunday to take on the Cats, with action commencing with the under 11 match at 10.30am. The under 13 fixture starts at 11.30am, with the under 15s rounding out the day at 1pm.
