Former Bairnsdale Cricket Association player Dylan Jordan has made a strong start to his stint in England.
Jordan, from Merimbula, previously created an outstanding impression playing for Orbost Cricket Club, regularly sending local bowlers to the boundary during his time with the Blues. The all-rounder also led the Pambula Blue Dogs to recent premiership success, securing back-to-back titles.
He is currently playing for West Hallam White Rose Cricket Club in Derbyshire, where he has been reunited with former Merimbula premiership teammates, brothers James and Matthew Heafield, who came to Australia to play nine years ago. The trio were part of Merimbula’s first premiership in 50 years, with James the wicketkeeper and Matthew starring as a batter, while Jordan, then just 18, impressed with both bat and ball.
West Hallam White Rose Cricket Club had made a strong start to the season, winning its opening two matches in the division three south of the Derbyshire County Cricket League, with Jordan contributing 140 runs, eight wickets and a catch.
However, he went to another level last weekend, breaking the club’s individual batting record by one run with a sensational 192 off 113 balls. His innings including six consecutive sixes in a single over, a rare feat in any form of the game. The previous record had stood since 2016.
He also combined with Matt Tatler to set a new first-wicket partnership record, putting on 302 runs together in a dominant display.
Jordan has quickly adapted to English conditions, including the Dukes ball, and is making a strong impression in his first season of Northern Hemisphere cricket. It is not his first trip to England, having previously attended Matthew Heafield’s wedding.
He is now aiming to make the most of the opportunity and help White Rose push towards a title this season.
