Premiership favourite Bruthen denied Lindenow South back-to-back victories in round five Omeo District Football Netball League action at Bruthen Recreation Reserve.
The Bulldogs completed the opening round of matches undefeated, running out convincing 64-point winners over the Swampies, who broke a long drought when they defeated reigning premier Omeo Benambra last week.
With Lucas Lakey consistently getting first hands on the ball in the ruck, the Bulldogs kicked five goals to one in the opening term and quickly took control of the contest.
The margin was a manageable 28 points at half time before a brilliant third quarter from the home side saw it pile on six goals to one in the premiership term, effectively putting the game beyond reach with a 63-point lead at the final change.
The tempo eased in the final quarter, with Bruthen cruising to a comfortable 64-point victory.
Harley Kenner was again prominent in attack, kicking six goals, while Jake Keown continued his strong form at the kennel with three majors.
Lakey was the clear best afield, well supported by Dylan Somerville, Kenner, half-backs Dylan Doecke and Daniel Hasler, and long-kicking left-footer Brenden Flinn.
Bruthen’s field kicking continues to be a major feature of its game, with the Bulldogs able to move the ball long and accurately through players such as Will Matthews and Nick Ward.
Shane Thorpe was busy up forward for the Swampies with four goals, while William O’Keefe, Daniel Jones, Kalen Fry, Jamie Donnelly and Noah Greaves were among their better players.
Lindenow South will head to Buchan this week, with both sides chasing their second win of the season.
Bruthen hosts Omeo Benambra, with the Alpine Ranges eager to string together some victories as they chase a potential three-peat.
