Landcare in Victoria was established 40 years ago.
The Nicholson River Landcare Group is taking the opportunity to celebrate its valuable contribution to the local community, with an invitation extended for people to come along and see what the group does to assist in providing recreational opportunities for both local residents and visitors to the area.
The hardworking group, established in 2004, is holding a “Come and See” open day this Saturday, May 23, from 9am to 11am at Station Walk and Michael Oxer Reserve, Nicholson.
Located conveniently adjacent to the East Gippsland Rail Trail and Nicholson River Estate, along Nicholson–Sarsfield Road, members will be on site to talk to visitors about what Landcare does, showcase what has been achieved to date, and explain how people can get involved with the group.
The group meets monthly, focusing on enhancing the local environment in areas both east and west of the beautiful Nicholson River.
With the group’s vision of “Improving the quality of the Nicholson River and environs”, it has a strong focus on restoring the local environment, particularly on public land, for the benefit of the community and its many visitors. The group’s area covers some 3096 hectares, encompassing the Nicholson River from the mouth to Sarsfield Bridge.
The group looks forward to interest from those who would like to learn more about Landcare.
