Banksia Bluff Campground at Cape Conran Coastal Park will temporarily close in late May with works expected to be completed by the end of October.
The closure will allow Parks Victoria to carry out essential upgrades to water and wastewater infrastructure across the campground.
Parks Victoria Gippsland regional director Kerri Villiers said the works were an important part of the park’s ongoing recovery following the 2019–20 bushfires.
“This next stage is about making sure the campground has the infrastructure it needs to operate safely and reliably into the future,” Ms Villiers said.
“The work runs right across the campground, including all underground services and toilets, so there’s no safe way to keep parts of it open while the work is underway.
“We know how popular Banksia Bluff is and that this will be disappointing, especially for locals and regular visitors.
“The timing has been planned to take place over winter so we can avoid the peak visitor season and reduce impacts on local communities and businesses.”
The works include installing new pipelines and pump systems, constructing a new wastewater treatment system and upgrading drinking water infrastructure, before restoring the campground once works are complete.
Other areas of Cape Conran Coastal Park will remain open during the works, including beaches, walking tracks, lookouts and day visitor areas.
Alternative camping options are available at Pearl Point, Corringle Foreshore Reserve and in Croajingolong National Park.
The closure comes as recovery work continues across the park, including the recent completion of a new office and activity centre and ongoing work to install new cabins within the existing precinct.
Updates will be shared as work progresses and when the campground is getting close to reopening.
