East Gippsland Shire Council is recognising local volunteers during National Volunteer Week, with several Snowy River Mail area residents inducted into the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll.
The Honour Roll celebrates residents who have made significant contributions to their communities through volunteering and community service.
Among this year’s Orbost and Far East area inductees was Neil Findley, recognised for more than 40 years of volunteer service.
Gail Sands was acknowledged for more than 20 years of service, while Madeleine Sands was recognised in the more than five years category.
Ronda Jacobs and Sylvia Boyle were both honoured in the up to five years category.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said volunteers played a vital role in strengthening East Gippsland communities.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community — whether they’re supporting emergency services, aged care, environmental conservation or local sport,” Cr Ashworth said.
“Their efforts make East Gippsland stronger, more connected and a better place to live.”
This year, 47 volunteers were inducted into the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll, collectively contributing more than 469 years of service across the region.
Council said the Honour Roll has now recognised more than 300 volunteers since being established in 2022, with nominations remaining open year-round.
