East Gippsland farmers are being encouraged to strengthen their business decision-making skills at an upcoming free workshop in Bairnsdale focused on improving profitability and planning during challenging conditions.
The “Business of Farming” workshop will be held today, Wednesday, May 27, from 4pm-6pm at the Gippsland Agricultural Centre at Bairnsdale Airport.
Delivered by Countryside Business Partners on behalf of Agriculture Victoria, the session aims to provide farmers with practical tools to better understand their cost of production, improve cash flow and reduce financial risk.
The workshop forms part of the Victorian Government’s statewide Drought Support Package.
Participants will learn how leading farmers use business data and financial benchmarks to guide decision-making during dry seasons, rising input costs and volatile market conditions.
Topics will include understanding true cost of production, identifying profit drivers and hidden cost blowouts, and making more informed decisions around markets, stocking rates, breeding versus trading, feeding strategies and future investment planning.
Organisers said the session would focus on practical outcomes rather than theory, helping producers turn farm data into useful information that supports stronger business performance.
Farmers attending the workshop will also receive practical tools and benchmarks they can apply directly on-farm to improve profitability and build confidence in decision-making.
Dinner will be provided as part of the event.
The workshop is free to attend, with organisers encouraging interested farmers and agricultural businesses to register early.
