Members of the East Gippsland Aeroclub recently took to the skies for a cross-regional flyaway, visiting the renowned Precision Airmotive warbird restoration facility at Wangaratta Airport.
Club members Daniel Livingston, Neil Livingston, Tony Gray, Vin Martin, Simon Karatsas, and Doug Clark made the journey to tour the specialised workshop, which has earned a global reputation for rebuilding and manufacturing World War II American P-40 Kittyhawk fighter aircraft for the international market.
The intricate nature of the aviation heritage industry was on full display during the tour, with the facility’s team of roughly 14 specialised personnel averaging an impressive 30,000 man-hours to complete a single aircraft rebuild.
Following the success of the Wangaratta trip, the club is already preparing for its next social flight, with a flyaway scheduled to the historic Lake Boga Catalina Flying Boat Museum in June.
