The Marlo community braved the winter chill on Saturday, June 6, as the Marlo Hotel hosted its very first DIY Big Freeze event to raise vital funds for FightMND.
The iconic coastal pub was a hive of activity as a generous crowd gathered to witness the spectacle, which saw more than 20 local residents volunteer to take a literal plunge into icy waters for a good cause.
The inaugural event proved to be a resounding success, raising more than $10,000.
Every cent will go directly to FightMND to fund large-scale clinical trials and research aimed at finding a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.
The sliders ensured the afternoon was as entertaining as it was meaningful, donning an array of colourful and creative costumes.
The crowd cheered as a cast of characters including Spiderman, Super Mario, and a Minion from Despicable Me hit the water, bringing plenty of laughs to the serious cause.
Marlo’s debut contribution has set a strong foundation for what many hope will become an annual fixture on the local calendar.
