Following a strong and well-supported season of & Juliet, Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company is inviting the community to get involved in its next production, the classic comedy ‘Allo ‘Allo.
With auditions fast approaching, the company is looking for a large ensemble cast to bring the beloved story to life.
Known for its distinctly British style of humour, ‘Allo ‘Allo leans into quick wit, farce, and a cast of memorable, over-the-top characters.
Set in occupied France during World War II, the play moves at a rapid pace with overlapping storylines, mistaken identities and plenty of sharp comedic timing required to keep the action on track.
The upcoming production offers a wide range of opportunities, from major featured roles through to smaller parts, making it an ideal chance for those new to theatre to test the waters in a supportive environment.
Alongside on-stage roles, the company is also seeking backstage crew members who can double as on-stage extras, as well as volunteers to assist with costumes, production management and promotional content.
Director Susan Hawton said the aim of the production is to honour the original television show while finding ways to connect it with a contemporary audience.
“It’s such a well-loved TV show, and we want to stay true to that humour and those familiar characters that people love,” Ms Hawton said.
“At the same time, there’s an opportunity to shape it in a way that feels accessible and engaging for a modern audience.”
Supporting her behind the scenes is experienced performer and director Tony Porter, who agrees that striking the right balance will be key to delivering a genuinely funny experience.
“The comedy in ‘Allo ‘Allo is very specific, and some of it is timeless,” Mr Porter said.
“But that doesn’t mean we can’t tweak a few things here and there so it’s still accessible to modern sensibilities.
“If we get that right, the humour speaks for itself, and audiences can enjoy both the nostalgia and the energy of a live performance with a cast that is genuinely enjoying the material they are working with.”
