The Orbost community recently gathered at The Moogji Block for Fire & Yarn, a cultural event designed to strengthen social connections, foster community wellbeing, and celebrate Aboriginal culture.
Held on Wednesday, June 3, from 5pm-8pm, the family-friendly evening brought together residents of all ages in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
The gathering marked the fourth cultural event organised as part of an ongoing commitment to supporting local cultural identity and social connection.
A central highlight of the night was the yarning circle fire, where respected local Elders Uncle Gerry and Uncle Buzzy performed for attendees.
Gathering around the fire, the Elders played guitar and sang Indigenous songs written by Uncle Gerry, sharing stories and cultural knowledge with the crowd.
To complement the music and storytelling, local food trucks provided a variety of dining options, contributing to the community-centred, relaxed atmosphere.
Organisers reported positive outcomes from the event, noting strong attendance and active participation from families, youth, and Elders.
The gathering provided a practical opportunity for intergenerational learning and cultural connection, while also helping to reinforce relationships between local organisations, community groups and service providers.
