The Orbost Arts Centre will host its latest “Sunday Sessions” live music event this weekend, on June 21, as part of the ongoing East Gippsland Winter Festival.
Kicking off at 3pm, the afternoon will feature two distinct musical performances highlighting regional talent.
Opening the session is Steve Williams, performing under his moniker The Singing Plumber.
Williams, who has spent 20 years playing in various bands across Australia and working in musical theatre, will deliver a solo acoustic act of country rock, folk, and blues on acoustic guitar and harmonica, featuring several of his original compositions.
Following Williams, five-piece outfit Snowy Jammers will take the stage for the second half of the afternoon.
Bringing a mix of bluesy rock and funk fusion, the band features singer-songwriter Ruth Hanson, lead guitarist Duncan Oliver, bass guitarist Matt Hickey, rhythm guitarist Peter Vaughn, and drummer Jamie Antonio.
The group’s old-school sound, blending classic riffs with contemporary lyrics, has recently gained international traction.
Their album Never Too Late has built a following abroad, reaching 169,909 listeners in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom on the N!M platform.
The Sunday Sessions series has been supported over the past year by Creative Victoria’s 10,000 gigs program.
The state-funded initiative has enabled the Orbost Arts Centre to provide a regular platform for local musicians to showcase their work to residents, travellers and music enthusiasts alike.
The event is open to the public, with entry by gold coin donation.
A licensed bar and snacks will be available on-site.
