Urgent rental appeal in Bairnsdale

Faced with the upcoming sale of her rental home of 13 years, local volunteer Brenda Gosden is urgently appealing to local landlords to help her secure a long-term, accessible property before her looming July 13 deadline.

Brenda moved into her current rental home on September 18, 2013.

Over more than a decade, she has maintained a spotless rental record, never defaulting on her payments and meticulously caring for the property.

To keep the home in top condition, she has funded regular garden maintenance and professional cleaning out of her own pocket, alongside conducting comprehensive annual deep cleans.

Brenda has also personally paid for and managed minor maintenance tasks around the property over the course of her tenancy.

Following three severe falls, Brenda underwent major surgeries and now lives with significant physical disabilities.

Consequently, she requires a specific type of property to safely accommodate her health and mobility needs.

Her search is focused on finding a home with the following features:

– A single-story dwelling on flat, even ground with minimal or no stairs.

– An accessible, disabled-friendly bathroom.

– A three bedroom layout with carpeted floors.

– Reverse-cycle heating and air conditioning.

– A garage for storage (preferred but not essential).

Because she does not drive, Brenda relies on local support services and transport.

It is vital that her new home is centrally located near amenities. She is specifically seeking a property in the Eastwood area to remain close to her ageing mother, whom she regularly assists.

Financially, Brenda is supported by a Disability Support Pension and a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) package, which helps her maintain her home and funding.

She is looking for a property in the range of $250 per week.

With her current rental property being sold with vacant possession, Brenda must secure a new home before Monday, July 13, 2026.

“I take enormous pride in my home,” Brenda said.

“No matter where it is, or even if it’s a rental property owned by someone else, it is still my home and it’s always treated with the utmost respect.”

Local landlords who may have a suitable property or are willing to assist are urged to contact Brenda Gosden directly (details via the Bairnsdale Advertiser office).
