On Wednesday, June 10, members from the Orbost and Cann River Police uniform sections, alongside the Orbost Highway Patrol and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, conducted a high-visibility enforcement operation at the local weighbridge.
The joint agency initiative targeted safety and compliance for heavy transport vehicles at the confluence of two of the state’s major freight routes, the Monaro Highway and the Princes Highway.
The operation was designed to ensure a safe work environment for transport drivers via heavy vehicle compliance and strict enforcement to increase safety for all road users on these high-volume corridors.
The day involved utilisation of the weighbridge alongside specialist inspection equipment supplied by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, with mandatory drug and alcohol testing also conducted.
The combined efforts saw 30 heavy vehicles inspected at the site, resulting in nine defect notices and four penalty notices being issued.
