Small townships across the East Gippsland Shire are celebrating a significant financial injection following the latest round of successful grant announcements from Regional Development Victoria’s (RDV) Tiny Towns Fund.
In total, eight community-led projects across the shire will share in more than $253,000 of funding.
The grant scheme supports vital local upgrades, focusing on maintaining and revitalising the essential gathering spaces and heritage sites that foster regional connection, liveability, and local tourism.
Among the successful local initiatives announced for East Gippsland are:
– Bemm River Men’s Shed kitchen upgrade ($10,787): This grant will fund essential updates to the kitchen facilities at the Bemm River Men’s Shed, providing local volunteers with improved, safer amenities to support their regular community gatherings.
– Genoa History Park heritage interpretation signage ($31,419): Designed to preserve and celebrate the historical significance of the district, this project will deliver informative heritage interpretation signage to guide and educate visitors to the Genoa History Park.
– Mallacoota WWII Bunker Museum cabinetry upgrade ($20,000): This funding will directly support local heritage tourism by funding a cabinetry upgrade at the WWII Bunker Museum, enhancing the preservation and display of Mallacoota’s historical
wartime collections.
The Tiny Towns Fund, which targets Victorian communities with populations under 5000, aims to address local infrastructure gaps and support the volunteer networks that keep small regional communities connected.
