Mallacoota and District Angling Club member Brock York addressed the recent group meeting in regard rigging soft plastics. (PS)

A fantastic turnout greeted the Mallacoota and District Angling Club recently for its June competition presentation evening.

The crowd was thoroughly entertained by sub-junior member Mackenzie Lott, whose hilarious “bad luck story” regarding a lost fish and a broken rod had the entire room in stitches.

On the night, Peter and Val Lott did a superb job manning the popular community barbecue, while Brock York impressed attendees with a highly informative live presentation on soft plastics rigging techniques.

Looking ahead, the club’s annual general meeting (AGM) will be held on Wednesday, July 29. Following this, the club will host a local Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) forum in August, giving members a valuable opportunity to ask questions directly regarding the management and health of the local fishery.

A massive milestone is also on the horizon, with the club locking in March 6–8, 2027, to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a major milestone fishing competition and dinner.

In the June competition, Rusty Caple took out the senior bag honours with 935 points. Archie Brownlie claimed the junior bag section with 568.6 points, while the entertaining Mackenzie Lott secured the sub-junior bag prize with 609 points.

The standout catch in the estuary division belonged to junior angler Hannah Wade, who landed a magnificent 82-centimetre tailor scoring 147.6 points. The impressive catch also set a new junior club record.

In the bluewater category, Vicki Lott took home the honours (91.8 points) with a commendable 108-centimetre gummy shark.

The mystery secret points competition was won by Peter Hancock, while the lucky registration prize went to Mackenzie Lott.

The evening concluded with the presentation of club capture certificates, recognising the great angling efforts of sub-juniors Mackenzie Lott and Tom Brownlie, alongside juniors Nellie Brownlie, Archie Brownlie, Ethan Wade, and Hannah Wade.

The club’s next monthly competition is scheduled to run from July 6–8.
