The thirds provided a major bright spot for Orbost Snowy Rovers at Lochiel Park last Saturday, capturing their third victory of the season with an impressive performance against Boisdale Briagolong.
The young Blues produced some of their finest football of the year during the first half, completely outplaying the Bombers to establish a commanding 31-point cushion at the main break.
Boisdale Briagolong emerged with renewed determination in the third term, taking the game right up to the hosts. However, the Blues were well and truly up for the fight, grinding through a intense third-quarter arm wrestle before pulling away in the final term to secure a comprehensive 45-point win.
Jack Barnes spearheaded the attack with four goals, while Daniel Martin booted three. Caleb Kenny and Beau Hanratty also made valuable scoreboard contributions with two majors apiece.
Barnes, Tye Robinson, Rusty Morrison, Hanratty, Martin and Thomas Joiner led the way in the morale-boosting victory. The Blues went down by 190 points to the rampant Bombers. Despite the remarkable scoreline and unusual statistic, Orbost Snowy Rovers remain squarely in the hunt for a finals berth. They currently sit seventh on the ladder with three wins, trailing fourth-placed Stratford and fifth-placed Wy Yung by just a single game.
While percentage remains a major hurdle for the Blues, it is a widespread issue across the bottom five sides in the grade, where percentages fluctuate drastically between 60 and 25. By comparison, the ladder-leading Bombers boast an unbelievable 1077.14 percent, underlining their sheer dominance over the competition this season.
Dayne Jorgensen, Luke Dilena, Jake Hartley, Shaun Waddell, Jack Sanna and Hanratty all battled fiercely in adversity for the Blues. They faced a heavily stacked Boisdale Briagolong outfit that featured quality senior-grade players including Nicoll Sandison, Jarrad Neilson, Reiley Rhodes, Bayden Dowsett, Jy Higgins and Shaquille Coridas.
