The Orbost Arts Centre is inviting community members to dust off their family heirlooms, artworks, old books and curiosities for another Antiques Evaluation Day on Sunday, August 9.
Running from 10am-3pm, the event offers local residents a unique opportunity to learn more about the origins, history, and estimated value of pieces they have sitting in cupboards, hanging on walls, or passed down through generations.
No pre-bookings are required for the day. Attendees can simply turn up with their items, which will be evaluated for $5 per item, with a strict limit of three items per person.
The evaluations will be conducted by two highly respected industry specialists, Jon Dwyer and Dennice Collett, who are volunteering their time and expertise to support the local community and raise funds for the art centre.
Jon Dwyer is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading art experts and valuers.
Coming from a three-generation art family, Mr Dwyer has spent more than 39 years in the art industry.
He possesses extensive knowledge across both Australian and international art markets, ranging from traditional to modern and contemporary works.
His areas of expertise cover paintings, sculpture, works on paper, books, furniture, prints, collectables and memorabilia.
Dennice Collett is a highly regarded decorative and visual arts valuer with deep expertise in furniture, ceramics, silver across all historical periods, Oriental art, objects of vertu, and Australiana antiquities.
An experienced writer and presenter, Ms Collett has contributed her expertise to the Australian Catholic University, The Johnston Collection, the Melbourne chapter of the Silver Society, and various rotary and antique clubs.
Organisers have emphasised that residents do not need to bring items to participate.
Community members are welcome to attend just to watch the specialists in action, socialise and purchase tea and coffee.
All funds raised from the evaluation fees will go directly toward supporting the ongoing operations of the Orbost Arts Centre.
