It was a tough day for Orbost Snowy Rovers at the Lindenow Recreation Reserve last Saturday, going down to the Cats in all grades in round 13 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League.
The thirds certainly weren’t disgraced against a Lindenow side that sits second on the ladder, battling hard in the second half against a quality outfit.
The Cats kicked 12 goals to three in a dominant first half performance to lead by 55 points at the half time.
But to their credit, the young Blues knuckled down and battened down the hatches, conceding four goals and booting three of their own, in a dour second half.
The final margin 58 points, with Jack Barnes and Beau Hanratty multiple goal kickers for Orbost with two each.
Tye Robinson, Hanratty, Daniel Martin, Damien Mitchell, Xavier Martin, and Barnes all working hard against a quality opponent.
The reserves mathematically bowed out of finals contention, going down to the third placed Cats by 78 points.
Orbost was held goalless in the first half and trailed by 51 points at half time.
They finally got a goal in the third term, but looked set for 20 goal defeat at three quarter time when trailing by 89 points.
But they dug deep in the final term, outscoring the Cats, kicking three goals to one, salvaging some pride in an impressive final quarter effort.
Charles Priestley was the only multiple goal kicker for the Blues, with the better players Tim Findley, Callum Harrison, Jake Kuyper, Hanratty, Jake Hartley, and Shaun Waddell.
Orbost Snowy Rovers will host Wy Yung at Lochiel Park this Saturday.
