The Omeo District Football Netball League home-and-away season concluded last Saturday, with round 15 matches played at Bruthen and Swifts Creek.
Omeo Benambra, in pursuit of a historic three-peat, finished the regular season undefeated after defeating Swifts Creek
by 20 goals, 54–34.
The Demons were chasing their fourth straight victory of the campaign, but their late-season golden run was halted by the unbackable premiership favourite.
Indi Ahsam, Sophie Ahsam and Natalie Mitchell were again outstanding for the Alpine Ranges, while Lydia Overend, Matilda Sheean and Amy Sutherland led the way for the Demons.
It is not all doom and gloom for Swifts Creek, which will take on Bruthen in the elimination final at Buchan this weekend. Given their recent resurgence, the Demons could well prove to be the second-best side in the competition and a prime grand
final contender.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs rounded out their home-and-away campaign with a hard-fought, one-goal victory over bottom side Lindenow South, 33–32.
While Bruthen got over the line, it certainly wasn’t the confidence-building win
they were looking for heading into a
finals series.
In “B” grade, Lindenow South and Buchan will clash in the elimination final, while the under 17s will see Omeo Benambra and Swifts Creek go head-to-head.
