The Orbost Bowling Club held its Opening Day last Sunday, in preparation for the upcoming pennant season.

The day was extremely well attended, with virtually all members in attendance.

Starting at 11am, the bowling was preceded by a general meeting of members and a barbecue lunch.

The weather, unfortunately, was not kind with an extremely strong wind blowing across the green, its only good side effect was to keep the temperature down to a reasonable level while the bowlers played only one game of 16 ends.

The winning team for the day was Geoffrey Robinson (skip), Scott Farnell, Karen Chenney and Margaret Coulton.

PENNANT

The first pennant games for the upcoming season will be held in a few weeks, with the midweek competition starting with an away game on Tuesday, October 6, followed by the weekend competition on Saturday, October 10, with a home game against each other for the two Orbost division three teams.

A pennant practice session will be held each Friday morning starting at 10am, until play gets underway.

SOCIAL BOWLS

Thursday’s social bowls was held in comfortable bowling conditions, although at times the breeze could be a little flukey and stiff.

The afternoon saw a very good turnout of bowlers even though three of the regulars players were away for the day.

The bowlers were organised to play two games of three bowl triples with each game having 10 ends.

There was no clear winner, with three of the triples winning both of their games, however, after a count back, the winning combination was Ron Hatcher, Ralph Harding and Lorraine Hawkey.

The next social bowls will be on Thursday, with players to be at the club no later than 12.30pm to allow the match committee time to arrange teams and game formats.

CRACKERJACK (BAREFOOT BOWLS)

The new season of Crackerjack will commence on November 4.

More information will follow closer to the date.
