Bream classic a Marlo winner

15 October 2019
in Local News

Round five of the 2019 Vic Bream Classic saw great numbers of teams as well as supporters turn out on what was a terrific weekend to get out on the waters of Marlo Inlet.

Locals put in great effort to see the event well attended and serviced with 46 teams taking to the water on Saturday and Sunday.

Lakes Entrance’s Paul and Justin Conn, of team EGM Revisited, took out the weekend’s big win, moving from third place overnight to win with a final weigh in across the two days of 9.34kg.

In second place was Team Procastinators, of Jarrod Tyler and Tim Webb on 9.11kg (also best bag of 5.22kg), and third, Team Tackle Tactics, of Corey McLaren and Adam Brown, with 8.59kg. The Perry Street Boys, of Harry Young, paired with Shane Barling, brought in the biggest bream of the competition of 1.68kg, biggest perch of 1.15kg was nabbed by Mark Gibbs, of Team Mad, and monster movers were Team Metung Hotel, Rhett and Alan Sandy, whose bag of 4.45kg saw them move 13 places up the leaderboard overnight. Anglers hit the water at 7am on Saturday hoping to bag the biggest bag of five bream on each of the two days.

Teams fished in what seemed to be five seasons in one day as anglers were presented with many challenges, however as the teams brought their limits of five live bream to the scales it showed the Snowy River is currently in a healthy condition.

The interesting weather conditions didn’t stop the locals and supporters who came from across Gippsland, Melbourne and even New South Wales to compete and watch the weigh ins from the packed deck of the Marlo Hotel.

“The Marlo locals were truly welcoming and supportive of the event with the Marlo Pub, Snowy River Bait and Tackle and many of the locals doing their best to support the event and help ensure that the Vic Bream Classic Series will be back to Marlo in 2020 season,” one keen Lakes Entrance angler said.

This 1.2kg catch was part of the team’s 4.24kg total for the weekend. The Perry Street Boys also brought in the biggest bream of the competition at 1.68kg.
