Garry’s great beard off

by Snowy River Mail

in Local News

Garry ‘Carree’ Carr’s beard is long. Very long. Not for much longer.

Garry is nervous about this Sunday, when, sometime between 3 and 5pm at the Marlo Hotel, his long beard will come clean off. It’s all for a good cause, one close to his heart; quite literally.

The Heart Foundation is the reason Garry is making this decade’s shave so public. Inspired by the work of Heart Foundation he wanted to make a difference.

“I usually shave about every 10 years, and this time I thought I’d try to raise a bit of money for a good cause while I’m at it,” he said.

There is a history of heart disease in Garry’s family, so the need for research into its cause and cure is obvious to him.

His father died from heart disease 20 years ago this year. He lost his brother suddenly to heart disease three years ago.

When Garry decided to raise money for the Heart Foundation he had a goal of $5000. He’s not quite there yet, with just under $3000 raised so far. There is time to help him.

“We’ll be having an auction on the day, with a number of great items that have been donated by local businesses,” Garry said.

“There is a variety of items up for the auction, from vouchers to small goods, all donated, and I’m really grateful for that.

“I’ve had quite a few people indicate they’d like to be the one to do the shave, so we’ll add that to the things being auctioned. It will be interesting to see how much we can raise just from someone wanting to get the deed done,” Garry laughed.

Donations can be made on the day or if you spot a poster around town you can do so online using the QR code. Or head to the everydayhero website and search ‘Carree’s beard off page’.

He encourages everyone to visit and share the page.

“The more people that know about Heart Foundation, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word,” he said.

So head along to the Marlo Hotel on Sunday, enjoy an afternoon of fun and excitement while raising funds for a worthy cause, and watch on as one long beard is no longer.
