Calendars showcasing Mallacoota

by Snowy River Mail
19 November 2019
in Local News

Photographers, whether local or visiting, professional or smart phone snappers, are able to capture spectacular images looking over the lakes, beaches and forests in and around Mallacoota. One in particular has grabbed the spotlight and has been published in the Australian Weather Calendar for 2020.

Turn over to the month of March and there you will find a stunning photo contributed by Mallacoota’s Martin Ascher.

Martin snapped his photo looking across the Mallacoota waters to a sunset over the Howe Range, the cloud formations, reflections and silhouettes presented with the dramatic colours of nature.

Now in its 36th year, the Australian Weather Calendar is published jointly by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society. It boasts breathtaking weather photos in glossy full colour, along with the science behind the amazing displays, each picture capturing a different experience from the delicate pattern of frost on bright green leaves in Canberra to rare red sprites above Kununurra. Together they celebrate the beauty and majesty of Australia’s weather.

Visit the BOM website for further details.

#LOVEGIPPSLAND WIN

On the back of Martin’s selection for the Australian Weather Calendar, another of his photos, which captures an early morning at Bastion Point, has won the 2020 #lovegippsland calendar competition, organised by Federal member for Gippsland, Darren Chester.

One of 13 photos selected, Martin’s photo, which features on the cover of the calendar, was chosen from more than 350 entries.

Mr Chester said he was impressed with the high calibre of entries and the final calendar represented the diversity of the region.

Free copies of the #lovegippsland calendar will be distributed throughout Gippsland and will also be available from Mr Chester’s electorate offices in Sale and Traralgon.
